The Whole World Fell Asleep by Sharonlee

she dreamt that the whole world fell asleep in beds and armchairs and in crumpled heaps in office buildings and on the street there was no background noise or tramping feet… the whole world was silent and still as she walked a road that went up a hill only she was left awake to see the damage done by mankind’s industry… and with dream-like unpredictability she found a broom in her hand and began to sweep her way across the entire land the task seemed unrealistic and surreal in a way how many times the sun rose and set she really couldn’t say… at last her task seemed complete as the whole world woke from a dreamlike sleep and filled the once silent streets… with background noise and tramping feet with bubblegum wrappers and cigarette butts half eaten pies and cappuccino cups with smoke and fumes and a bustling commotion that spread over the world from ocean to ocean… she sighed at the senseless actions of mankind and turned away, only to find that trash was now knee-deep in the streets… but it was her turn to fall asleep… and she dreamt that the whole world once again fell asleep in beds and armchairs and in crumpled heaps in office buildings and on the street there was no background noise or tramping feet… and on the hill one person stood still with broom clutched firmly in hand and with a slow and rhythmic movement began to sweep the entire land… Sharonlee 7/2/2008
