Think beyond words
If only for a little while
Move beyond unkeepable promises
Colorful boasts of successes
Poetic campaigns, past or present
Vague dreams, idealistic future plans
and just be here - now.
I know the soul hidden behind grandiose verbosity
Has noble intentions, yet
In spite of inner goodness, a false surface remains
No storm acknowledged, between your eyes and mine.
As my heart cries pretense, deceit
I want to crawl beneath reasonable doubt
Tunnel into core truth, though that fire burns me dry
Chills the marrow, stills my very breath
I want to speak, for once
Without structured doubletalk of educated tongues
Silence stale-voiced benign camaraderie
Banal language for the sake of duty and loyalty
That poisons new growth in our word heavy culture
Allow meaning to converge with reality
And in the time that is left us
Tell each other unembellished stories
Nothing to distrust between the lines.
