Old house on plains that roll
north to Kansas has the appearance
of weathered wood, but there is
not a tree in sight. It is
made of a hundred years of time
spent that hasn’t been painted in
forty. Abandoned when
the farm changed hands, it stands
still among oil pumps working
in a field the color of November.
