Some little man who fancies himself leader
of a free world stutters late he cannot
imagine, and my nomad mind wanders
off to Tinochtitlan, Chichen Itza, downtown
Gary, Anasazi ghost towns, Tascosa, an
other city dispersed with barbed wire
over Plains, unnamed settlements
clinging to dangerous coasts, wonders
which presence names a place, which absence
makes the heart of the world miss a beat before

it goes on.
